After the tremendous success we had last year with 40+ kids attending our art & yoga summer camp (read the parent reviews on Google and Facebook!) Kala Art & Yoga joined 5 Rounds Melbourne to offer a BIGGER, BETTER and even more EXCITING camp this summer!

Our summer camp offers an opportunity for children to express themselves through art with painting, drawing, collage and more while receiving the benefits of a yoga practice tailored just for them. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA helps children build their self-confidence while developing practical self-defense and anti-bullying skills that can be applied to their everyday lives.

Artistic & Creative Skills Development

In our daily art classes, our kids work on building a strong foundation of visual arts skills, developmental skills and techniques in a fun, creative environment. Our projects include painting, drawing, collage and more, introducing a hands-on curriculum that focuses on the seven elements of art: line, shape, form, value, space, color and texture.

Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness Benefits for Children

The earlier we can share the gift of yoga with our children, the earlier we can enrich their lives. Yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem, promotes healthy living habits and positive body awareness with a physical activity that’s accessible to every one.

Love Yourself. Love Your Neighbor. Yoga and meditation teaches us to accept and cherish ourselves as we are, yoga teaches us to love ourselves and others. This incredibly valuable lesson, when learned at a young age, prepares children with the emotional skills required to handle the natural feelings of self-doubt that come during the teen years and beyond as well as develop acceptance and tolerance of others. In practicing yoga, kids learn early in life that all living beings are to be cherished and respected, thus establishing positive relationships and interaction with their family, friends, teachers, and society in general, helping to create more peaceful local communities and a more peaceful world in our future.

Increased Focus. Better Performance at School. We live in a world of distractions. More and more these days, kids seem unable to focus on anything that is not coming from a screen, a device. Yoga teaches kids to be present, with themselves, without smart phones, computers and video games, and to concentrate and focus on their breathing. Breathing techniques helps children throughout the day, in any situation.

Self-awareness and mindfulness. During yoga practice, we are guiding our bodies through poses that help us learn more about ourselves and what we are capable of. Children also learn more about their minds, their own thoughts and how they have the power to choose how to react to any given situation. This awareness of the body, mind and spirit, and of what can be achieved when all three are aligned in harmony and balance, helps children develop into more confident, kind, responsible adults.

Healthy Living Habits. Any exercise program begun in childhood helps kids to remain physically active and healthy as they grow into adulthood. However, yoga takes that further by teaching not only the healthy habits mentioned above, but also developing a healthy emotional life, a healthy approach to food and eating and the ability to calm oneself through meditation, breathing techniques and focus the mind.

Jiu Jitsu and MMA Benefits for Children

What is BJJ? Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art whose central theme is the skill of controlling a resisting opponent in ways that force him to submit. Due to the fact that control is generally easier on the ground than in a standing position, much of the technique of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is centered round the skill of taking an opponent down to the ground and wrestling for dominant control positions from where the opponent can be rendered harmless. BJJ is the perfect self-defense martial art to teach children because it’s designed to empower the smaller and weaker against the bigger and stronger.

Bully Prevention Program. Every month in the United States, three million children miss school due to fear of bullies. During our camp, the goal is to instill in your child unshakable confidence so they can overcome bullies without violence.

Lifetime Skills Development: Enhanced confidence. Listening and focusing skills. Social skills. Self-control, respect and discipline. Improvement of physical attributes such as hand-eye coordination, strength, agility and flexibility. How to deal with confrontation and bullying in a safe manner.

Summer Camp Schedule:

Camp will run for 8 weeks from June 3rd – August 2nd. There will be no camp on the week of 4th of July (July 1st-5th).

Monday – Friday (7:30am-4pm)
Half Day (morning or afternoon session) and Full Day Available

Morning Session Art & Yoga (7:30-noon):
7:15am – 7:30am: Parents drop off kids
7:30am – 8:00am: Circle Time
8:00am – 10:30am: Art Class – Project
10:30am – 10:45am: Clean up and setup for yoga class
10:45am – 11:30am: Yoga class (with 10 minutes nap at the end)
11:30am – 12:00pm: Lunch
12:00pm: Pick up

Afternon Session Jiu Jitsu, MMA & Games (noon-4pm):
11:45am – 12:00pm: Parents drop off kids
12:00pm – 1:00pm: Movies & Games (MMA, Jiu Jitsu)
1:00pm – 2:30pm: Jiu Jitsu/MMA class
2:30pm – 3pm: Circle Time (snack will be served)
3:30pm – 4:00pm: Free time with supervised games and activities
4:00pm: Pick up

Refund & Cancellation Policy:

No refunds, credits or exchanges will be given. Make sure you are ready to register your child before you do so. We will not give refunds, partial refunds, credits or exchanges for days/weeks of camp your child is not able to attend for any reason. Once your child is registered, their spot is secure. If you have a conflict with schedule, we will work with you and do our best to accommodate your needs. We can not guarantee that you will get the exact week you want if it’s different from the one you selected upon registration. It all depends on how many kids we have attending that week.
